This Issue was supposed to be published two weeks back. And yet, here I am, putting this together, after skipping two issues. I could have done with a simple “Last Week on After a Good Date” but I wanted to do something substantial before I wrote here.
I was traveling in the second week of February. It was fun. It was so much fun, that I couldn’t get the time to put together an Issue. I finished The Woman with a Cigarette series and have since then started a new series altogether. That and much more has happened.
A Fan Moment — Vidhya Sood
I have always enjoyed reading Erotica. Back in the day, when the broadband Internet was a luxury, my go-to source of porn used to be Literotica. As I grew older, and become sexually active, the language of western erotica became more and more alien for me. My reality and what I read in these sex stories were always at odds — I never found a barista at Starbucks who flirted with me.
For entertainment, I switched to reading Indian erotica on Kindle. All of this was pretty random, until I found an author who had a large portfolio of books — Vidhya Sood. One of the first books I had read of her was Let Them Watch. I loved the cohesiveness of the story, and the eroticism that was sprinkled all over the book, in healthy doses.
During the lockdown I read a lot. When I was not fucking Nisha and cumming inside her, I was reading sex stories, and one author whom I read a lot, was Vidhya. She doesn’t have a social media presence. The only way to reach her is through her email, which she mentions in each of her books, so, I didn’t have any direct way of letting her know how much I liked her work. Instead, I tried to read as much of her work as I could.
A year back, in Feb 2022, when I started writing as After a Good Date, a bulk of my inspiration was from Vidhya’s writing. I was fascinated how she built layers of sexuality to her female characters, that in her stories, these women weren’t just a pair of tits and a slit. They were sophisticated in the way they saw life, they had cohesive thoughts, and above all, they had self-actuating desire.
So, after publishing on After a Good Date and after the success of One Trip Stand, Untying the Knots and A Proper One Night Stand, I decided that it was time for me to self-publish on Kindle. Kindle Direct Publishing is deceptively easy way to put an eBook together and list it as a title on the Kindle store.
When I returned from a month long break in December 2022, I decided that I will put my writings together in eBooks. It was a cumbersome prospect, and up until that point, I did not provide any stories which were not entirely free to read. It took me some time to figure out the freemium model that I do with my stories. But, that wasn’t my biggest problem.
The first story that I put together was A One Trip Stand. It’s my most read story, partly because it’s one of my oldest stories and I think it had the kind of rawness and unbridled expression of sexuality with which I set out with. I had a lot of new things to say in the story, a lot of new ways to describe sex.
I made an eBook, followed all the formatting and style guides of Kindle Direct Publishing and submitted it. 48 hours later, the book was available in all stores in the world, but not the most important store that I was targeting — India. I tried all sorts of ways to make it available. I changed the category from Erotica (which is the honest category) to Romance. But it didn’t go through.
Amidst all this, I decided to email someone who has a lot of self-published content — Vidhya Sood. Well, I didn’t get any replies from her.
One day, she sent an email blast, and I was on the list. I replied to the thread, but the thread went cold very quickly. In the email though, I mentioned what I do, and gave her the link to my Substack. She assured me that she will go through it and give me feedback.
I had forgotten all about it, until yesterday when I got an unexpected email from her —
Hi,
It is not unusual to get mails from some, who are not just into reading but also writing the kind of stuff, I write. Some of them request for a shoutout, which I too believe in doing but has always been a paid collaboration. And one of the main reasons, for charging for such promotions had been the persistence of my talent management company, which not only takes care of my publishing but finances as well.
But something changed last night. And thankfully, after a long discussion with my management company, I have convinced them to promote the stuff I wish to without charging a single penny. At the same time, I would want them to contribute towards a charity where I also do on a regular basis. The amount they want to donate, will be their own choice, and even if they don’t donate that will also be their own sole decision.
Today, I am sharing a blogging site -
He also has a bunch of published books, available on this link - https://indiankink.substack.com/s/published-books
Go on, click on the above mentioned links and see for yourself, what this site and the author has in store for you.
Wishing you all - A Happy Reading!
Till then,
HUGS & KISSES
- Vidhya
I am still in a phase where the moment I receive an email about a new subscriber or a book sale, I get super excited. That one email blast from Vidhya, filled my inbox with 10s of email of new subscriber to the Substack and a few sales of my books.
This was incredible. Me and Vidhya had a chat afterwards, that how she had to work it out with her Talent Management firm to promote an author without it being a paid collaboration. Even when I am writing this, I am in awe with the whole thing coming through, to be promoted by someone like Vidhya who literally has dozens of bestselling Indian erotica books (well, technically she had to list them as Romance, because of Amazon India policies, but still!).
So, I will stand on my soapbox and tell you all to check out her books on Kindle. They are all part of Kindle Unlimited and you can read them for free if you have Kindle Unlimited subscription (which I believe is ₹169 per month).
A New Book and a New Story
The Woman with a Cigarette — The Book
I finished The Woman with a Cigarette. The fourth and last part, turned out to be a 26 minute read. I had published it entirely for free, but I decided to put the work together as an eBook, and keep the last chapter only on the eBook.
Like most of my eBooks, there are two ways to buy it — through my Gumroad and as an Extra on Buy Me a Coffee page.
Oh, and if you become a Member at my Buy Me a Coffee page, you can get the book (and all my content) for 80% off i.e. for $1.
About a Common Whore — Roli
This is a story I have been thinking about for a while now. When I started sketching the characters and story arc, I wanted this book to be ambitious. In this story, I have decided to bite more than I usually do.
My stories are usually fun. Yes, the characters would have a past that maybe dark, but it all starts fun and simple. Not this one.
While thinking about Roli, I had to dig deep, into all the violence and sex that I could muster. It’s a risk that I have taken, to write about a sensitive topic — prostitution. Selling women as commodities is abhorring. It is the kind of thing that we as civilization should have never gotten into. But, it’s a part of our reality.
The story is about Roli. A young and beautiful girl, who finds herself orphaned at the age of 16. We meet her when she is 23, a recovering addict. The story is about the years in which she learned to be a whore, the kind of people she met along the way, the kind of deceit that she had to live through. It’s a story that is sad but sexual. And, it does not have a happy ending. It does not have a redemption, because life isn’t fair. It doesn’t have a rich man coming to save Roli, it’s not a Pretty Woman rip-off.
When you read about Roli, and when you get hard for her, I want you to realize that there are things we jerk off to, that we shouldn’t be proud of. There are things that are done to women, which they don’t always enjoy, but they have to find a way to do so, because life isn’t always plush.
Well, at least, that’s my plan for now. Go ahead, read the first two parts of the story, if you haven’t already —
Commissioned Stories
Among other reasons why last week was cold on After a Good Date, a big part is a commissioned story series that I am writing for one of my patrons. I cannot talk about the story, since the story is meant only for the patron. It’s uber fun to extrapolate individual’s imagination and serve fetishes.
If you are interested in something of that sort, you can commission a story too. It has limited slot, since there’s only so much time I can give to deliver 10k words in 14 days.
That will be all for this Issue. I hope you like the content that is coming your way. Don’t be shy when reaching out to me on my Reddit(u/iskinky92), Twitter(@iskinky92) or my email (indiankink@tutanota.com).
